Enhanced energy management
To protect the cooling unit’s starter battery, it is now charged when the S.KO COOL refrigerated box body, which has a diesel-powered S.CU cooling unit, is connected to a truck via the EBS socket. This protects the battery from deep discharging and increases the availability of the cooling unit. For this to work, the EBS connection between the tractor unit and trailer must be established.

Furthermore, this solution helps to increase the availability of safety and security functions like the door locking system and alarm system. The new energy management system extends the cooling unit battery’s service life and ensures that it is always ready to use. As a result, system failures can be avoided and maintenance planned effectively to avoid or reduce downtime. Using the TrailerConnect® portal and the beSmart app, both the general condition of the battery and its charge status can be checked at any time.

Auto-location: automatic assignment to the correct tyre position
With the help of the auto-location function, sensors from the Schmitz Cargobull TPMS* can be automatically detected and assigned to the respective wheel position. As a result, the complicated training and assignment process is no longer needed. This saves time and money, both for customers and in the workshop.

After a tyre change or a trip to the workshop, auto-location offers maximum safety and transparency straight away. Via the TrailerConnect® portal, the status of the tyres and the entire trailer can be easily and conveniently monitored in real time. In the event of abnormalities, alarm messages are issued, e.g. by e-mail, SMS or app notifications (see also Press release 2024-154).

New quiet-running floor – now PIEK-certified
The new multifunctional quiet-running floor for refrigerated semi-trailers is PIEK-certified, extremely quiet and non-slip. Deliveries to urban areas can therefore also be made in the early morning hours as well as in the late evening. The new multifunctional quiet-running floor with PIEK certification is an enhancement to the established multifunction floor.

New equipment variant: roller shutter combined with the S.CU mt cooling unit speeds up loading and unloading
The new position of the additional roof evaporator means that a roller shutter can now be incorporated. This results in even greater loading flexibility and speeds up loading and unloading at ramps. The fully foam-insulated cooling unit pipes guarantee end-to-end insulation, providing additional protection from damage. It means the body is also easier to clean. The repositioning of the auxiliary roof evaporator and the perfectly aligned partition wall avoids the risk of airflow short circuits, ensuring optimum air circulation and meaning the cargo area can be efficiently used.

TAPA standard-compliant safety equipment
Certification of the safety equipment to TAPA Trucking Security Requirements 1 has been renewed. In order to meet the exacting requirements for the protection of highly priced and sensitive goods during transport, an integrated alarm and communication system triggers an audible alarm in the event of unauthorised access to the trailer by third parties. Alongside this audible alarm, the TL4 electronic door locking system ensures that freight is protected from unauthorised access by third parties. This smart, safe and innovative function enables users to automatically control the door locking system, increasing process and transport safety. This is only available in combination with the Schmitz Cargobull networked TrailerConnect® telematics solution. Users can define loading and unloading locations in the TrailerConnect® portal where the door locking system automatically unlocks the trailer on arrival or locks it when leaving. Geofence-areas only need to be configured once, simply and conveniently in the TrailerConnect® portal. Furthermore, once the trailer door has been closed, a general automatic lock can be activated at the touch of a button in the TrailerConnect® portal or beSmart app.

Schmitz Cargobull EcoPack – aerodynamic storage box for even greater fuel savings
The S.KO refrigerated box body semi-trailer is now equipped with a new aerodynamic storage box, known as the EcoPack – a feature currently available exclusively from Schmitz Cargobull. Thanks to its special aerodynamic design, the box ensures improved air flow, resulting in fuel savings. At the same time, it provides additional storage space, specifically for spare wheels and load securing material. As well as the aerodynamic benefits, the EcoPack also impresses with its low unladen weight and quick, easy handling.

Immobiliser – optional immobiliser for greater safety
The new optional immobiliser protects the trailer from theft or unauthorised movement. Once parked, it is activated in a few seconds and the trailer’s wheels are locked. The immobiliser can only be activated or deactivated by the driver on site using a PIN or by a remote user on the TrailerConnect® portal.

New generation of reversing cameras for greater safety and time savings
The new reversing camera simplifies handling for drivers, as the camera offers enhanced safety and simplifies reversing manoeuvres. This avoids damage when approaching narrow ramps. The camera works using Bluetooth, so no cable connections are required.

New protective grille in the circulation wall
The protective grille in the S.KO COOL’s circulation wall prevents waste material, leaves or dirt being drawn in by the cooling unit, preventing it from becoming dirty. Cleaning is simplified, as dirt no longer gets behind the circulation wall. Instead, it collects on the floor near the circulation wall and can be easily removed. This also minimises major damage, such as fires.

Ferry underride guard with sliding rollers
The Schmitz Cargobull ferry underride guard with sliding rollers is a particularly effective solution to the challenges presented by vehicle configurations with low tyres used for combined transport by rail or ferry. When vehicles are switched to a train or ferry, or are used on difficult ramp angles, the rear of the vehicle can often sustain significant damage. In the event of contact, the sliding rollers allow the trailer to roll away, preventing the force of the collision from hitting the chassis directly and protecting the underride guard and attachments like lighting mounts from damage. This not only reduces repair costs for the underride guard, but also cuts downtimes caused by workshop visits, increasing the vehicle availability.

All-electric S.KOe COOL refrigerated box body semi-trailer with electric S.CU ep85 cooling unit
Schmitz Cargobull launched the all-electric S.KOe COOL refrigerated box body semi-trailer with electric cooling unit with built-in power electronics, high-voltage battery system and electric generator axle, for the emission-free transport of temperature-controlled freight.

With the new S.KOe “battery only” version, the customer can opt to forego the generator axle; in this case, the high-voltage battery needs to be charged from a mains connection. Thanks to the savings in weight and cost, this version is ideal for split transport.

The reliability of the entire S.KOe COOL system was confirmed under extreme conditions on a test rig in the climate wind tunnel. Temperatures of -30 to +50 degrees, high humidity, sunshine with high radiation intensity and rain, snow and ice do not present a problem for the all-electric refrigerated box body. Schmitz Cargobull’s S.KOe COOL is the first all-electric refrigerated box body semi-trailer with type approval. The semi-trailer has the best possible series production factory insulation values. Every trailer is equipped as standard with the TrailerConnect® control unit including tyre pressure monitoring sensors with an auto-location function.

The electrically operated S.CU ep85 cooling unit provides a cooling capacity of up to 15,800 W and a heating capacity of 10,500 W, generating the same cooling capacity as a diesel-powered refrigeration unit. Batteries on the landing gear replace the diesel tank and the optimum position of the electrical components ensures effective and normal use of the pallet box. With its battery capacity of 32 kWh, stand-alone electrical operation of 4.5 to 18 hours can be ensured without the need to recharge via the generator axle or the power grid, depending on usage and requirements. Recharging from the power grid is done via the CEE three-phase connector on the cooling unit and takes about two hours. The payload of the fully electric refrigerated box body semi-trailer with a battery and electric axle is similar to a refrigerated semi-trailer with a diesel unit. The additional weight of the battery of the all-electric refrigerated semi-trailer is almost completely balanced out by the removal of the generator in the cooling unit, and the omission of the diesel tank on the semi-trailer.

The type-approved Schmitz Cargobull generator axle recuperates energy above a certain speed and during braking, and therefore extends the operating time of the cooling unit or reduces the charging times of the battery from the power grid.

Three pre-defined modes (ECO, STANDARD and SAFE) support the complete system of the S.KOe COOL and the trailer can be configured to meet the customer’s requirements. ECO mode ensures maximum energy and cost efficiency during refrigerated transport, STANDARD mode delivers cost-efficient availability of the electric cooling unit, while SAFE mode provides maximum protection. The modes can be selected via the display and keypad on the transport cooling unit or via the TrailerConnect® portal and an app.

The generator performance of the electrified axle is precisely matched to the requirements of the cooling unit. The system is fully integrated into the Schmitz Cargobull telematics system so that the respective system status, e.g. battery charging status, remaining range, remaining charging time etc. – can be monitored via the telematics portal.

With the S.KOe COOL, Schmitz Cargobull is offering a zero-emission refrigerated semi-trailer, which is particularly important to the field of distribution transport as zero emission zones will be coming into force in many cities from 2025.

*The TrailerConnect® TPMS is also technically compatible with the majority of sensors available on the market (in the EU). Only the original Schmitz Cargobull sensors are compliant with UN ECE R 141 for the TPMS including auto-location function.
