September 2024 – The all-electric S.KOe CITY refrigerated box body semi-trailer increases fleet flexibility for inner-city distribution transport. With its fully electric equipment and a short body version, it offers a sustainable, reliable and manoeuvrable transport solution for urban delivery traffic. Ideally equipped for temperature-controlled transportation in city traffic, the S.KOe CITY helps to reduce carbon emissions. The FERROPLAST® panels guarantee the best possible insulation with a k-value from 0.295 W/m²K in series production ex works.
The ATP-FRC certified S.KOe CITY box body semi-trailer operates emission-free thanks to the all-electric cooling unit, the battery system and the electric generator axle. The electrically operated S.CU ep85 cooling unit provides a cooling capacity of up to 15,800 watts and a heating capacity of 10,500 watts, generating the same cooling capacity as a diesel-powered refrigeration unit. With its battery capacity of 32 kWh, stand-alone electrical operation of 4.5 to 18 hours can be ensured without the need to recharge via the generator axle or the power grid, depending on usage and requirements. The electrified and type-approved Schmitz Cargobull generator axle recuperates energy above a certain speed and during braking, and therefore extends the operating time of the cooling unit or reduces the charging times of the battery from the power grid. Intelligent battery charge management ensures that the battery charge level remains as high as possible in order to provide a high level of safety in standstill situations, such as traffic jams.
The steering axle with mechanical forced steering enables high manoeuvrability, even in narrow streets, access roads and loading yards. This means that deliveries to food retailers can be made more efficiently and without wasting time. In addition, tyre wear is significantly reduced due to the lack of abrasion.
Sustainable, reliable and manoeuvrable transport solution for urban delivery traffic
The roller shutter door with an XL certificate according to EN-12642 is insulated and certified with ATP-FRC, ensuring optimised and efficient handling during loading and unloading. The Heavy-Duty rear package with compressible Delta steel rear roller bumpers provides reinforced protection of the body when approaching the loading ramp. This offers major support during frequent loading and unloading in distribution or hub-to-hub transport.
The central electrical box has been updated and makes all electrical connections easily accessible in one place. All electrical connections with full documentation are therefore located in one place when retrofitting new electrical options and functions. This facilitates access, maintenance and service for all electrical components. A robust partition wall and a new reversing camera solution complete the package. The semi-trailer also has a 2.5-tonne self-supporting tail lift with food distribution options, such as roll stops, foot control, platform covering in slip-resistant material, flashing lights integrated into the tip of the platform, and additional LED strips on both sides of the tail lift.
Schmitz Cargobull has been successively installing its TrailerConnect® telematics system in all semi-trailers as a standard feature ex works since 2018. Since early 2024, all trailers have been equipped with tyre pressure monitoring sensors as standard and now comply with the UN ECE R 141 standard, which has been in force since July 2024. This standard requires all newly approved semi-trailers to be equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for registering tyre pressures. Schmitz Cargobull’s TPMS monitors the tyre pressure in real time and warns of sudden or gradual loss of pressure or of overpressure.
TPMS with auto-location: Automatic assignment of the correct tyre position
With the help of the auto-location function, Schmitz Cargobull TPMS* sensors can be automatically detected and assigned to the relevant wheel position. As a result, the complicated and error-prone teach-in and assignment process is no longer needed. This saves time and money, both for customers and in the workshop. After a spontaneous tyre change or a trip to the workshop, auto-location offers maximum safety and transparency straight away via the TrailerConnect® portal, the status of the tyres and the entire semi-trailer can be easily and conveniently monitored in real time. In the event of abnormalities, alarm messages are issued by e-mail, SMS or app notifications (see also Press release 2024-154).
*The TrailerConnect® TPMS is also technically compatible with the majority of sensors available on the market (in the EU). Conformity with UN ECE R 141 can only be ensured for the TMPS with auto-location function when genuine Schmitz Cargobull sensors are used.
